I Built the Rucking App I Wish I Had When I Started

When I started rucking back in 2021, I didn’t have a roadmap. No calorie tracking. No structured tools. No app that understood what it actually feels like to throw 40–50 pounds on your back and grind through miles of trail or pavement.

I had a CamelBak packed with weight, a frustrated body, and more fat than confidence. But rucking changed everything for me. It’s how I lost 90 pounds and rebuilt my life one mile at a time.

So after years of rucking, testing gear, building calculators, and becoming an ISSA-certified personal trainer, I finally built the one thing I wished existed back then:

Why I Built the Rucking App

Most fitness apps treat rucking like walking with a quirky attitude. But rucking burns 2–3x more calories than walking and builds real strength. Apple Watch, Google Fit, and most trackers still have no idea how to measure it. They undercount calories so badly that people get discouraged.

The app fixes that — and it also includes support for both weighted vests and backpacks, the same way my calculators do. They’re not just rucking calculators — they’re weighted vest calorie calculators too.

The formula estimates real rucking calorie burn using your bodyweight, pack/vest weight, terrain difficulty, effort, and pack type.

What the App Does Right Now

The first version is simple on purpose — fast, clean, and built for real ruckers and weighted vest athletes. You can:

  • Enter your bodyweight
  • Enter pack or weighted vest load
  • Choose vest or backpack
  • Log distance, pace, or time-per-mile
  • Adjust effort level (hills, trail, road, max effort)
  • See your estimated calorie burn instantly

It’s the foundation — the starting point I never had.
