Why I Bought a Trap Bar and Two Sets of CAP Bumper Plates During Prime Day

This Prime Day, I finally pulled the trigger on something I’ve been wanting for a while — a CAP Barbell Olympic Trap Bar and not just one, but two sets of CAP Bumper Plates.

Why? Because sitting at a desk all day — even when you stay active otherwise — slowly wrecks your posture and core. My lower back has been telling me that for years. A trap bar (or hex bar) is one of the safest, most natural ways to build strength and balance it all out.

The trap bar I grabbed is this one:
👉 CAP Barbell Olympic Trap Bar on Amazon — on sale for about $96, with free shipping. It’s rated for up to 750 lbs, and built from solid steel with multiple grip positions for shrugs, squats, and deadlifts.

And the plates?
👉 CAP 2-Inch Olympic Bumper Plate Set260 lbs for $181.99, which works out to roughly 70¢ per pound shipped. That’s unheard of lately.

Most decent bumper plates are well over a dollar per pound — some double that. I ended up getting two sets while the sale’s live because it’s rare to see prices this low on something that’ll probably outlast your gym membership.

These CAP sets are a great middle ground — not competition plates, but durable, full-sized, rubber-coated weights with a steel hub that protects the barbell sleeve. They’re great for garage setups, apartment complexes, or anyone who’s tired of waiting for a squat rack at the gym.

I’ll be using mine mainly for deadlifts, farmer’s carries, and trap-bar squats — perfect movements for counteracting long hours at a desk. A good trap bar lets you lift heavy safely without rounding your back, and that’s a game changer for posture and longevity.

If you’ve been wanting to build a home setup, this combo is about as affordable as it gets — both items shipped free and arrived fast. I’m genuinely impressed by the value.
